To Sri Lanka: Greetings from Norway!

In Norway we’re once again ready for a new ODW (Operation a Day’s Work)-campaign, and this year we’re supporting the Norwegian Church Aid and their partners in Brazil. Their projects are concentrated around the biggest cities in Brazil, and the goal of the projects is to strengthen youth democracy and youth participation in the urban society. Youth democracy is an important part of the Norwegian society and way of thought, and it’s important for ODW to spread information about the situations and challenges in other parts of the world. The campaign for 2003 in Sri Lanka was an important piece in the line-up of thematics we wanted Norwegian youths to acknowledge.

It’s important for us to know that the projects we support are projects of high quality, and to make sure that they are being followed up properly. We know times have been challenging in Sri Lanka the last years, and it brings us great joy to know that you’ve started the projects again. Personally that’s one of the things I find amazing and special about youths; we never give up! You’re a brilliant example that this is a true fact.

Every year Norwegian youth support projects in different countries, with different thematics, and different partners. With the knowledge we learn from youths in other parts of the world, Sri Lanka as well as any other country, we’re able to spread information to all generations, young as well as elder. We know that you put an amazing effort in tutoring your local societies, and we know that the cultural events and volunteer work you do have an astonishing effect.

From all the youths in Norway working with ODW, we wish you the best of luck with your meeting in Trincomalee, and we look forward to hear the results of the meeting, and the plans ahead.

Best regards, on behalf of Norwegian ODW-youths,
Simon Oliver Ommundsen
Leader of Operation a Day’s Work
